Detective Ethan Bennett has been a good friend of Bruce Wayne's since they were both kids. He is the detective in charge of capturing the Batman. Bennett is partnered with Detective Ellen Yin from Metropolis and the two of them begin their investigation while at the same time helping to keep down the crime in the great city of Gotham. Bennett is conflicted about his job because he believes that Batman is actually helping Gotham and feels it would be better to work with him than try to catch him. But after Chief Angel Rojas comes down on him Bennett decides to take a heavy hand with Batman. Because of his efforts Bennett ends up getting kidnapped by Joker and tortured mentally by him for hours. He is then exposed to the highly unstable chemical known only as Joker Putty, that turns whatever it touches into a kind of clay/putty stuff. Ethan becomes the villain known as Clayface, a shape shifting thief who is torn between doing good, as Ethan, or his alter-ego Clayface. For a while it appears that Clayface has won and that Ethan Bennett is gone for good, but the cop in Ethan rises to the surface and after helping take down Joker he willingly allows Batman to administer the antidote to help take down Basil Karlo, a want to be actor who has taken the toxin to make himself a Clayface. Ethan is cured by the antidote while Karlo is just weakened. You never hear of him again after than episode except for a brief mention of him as Chief Bennett in season 4.gole
