Gossamer was a large hairy red monster from the 1946 Looney Tunes cartoon Hair Raising Hare.
On a dark night, Bugs Bunny is lured to a mysterious old castle by a beautiful mechanical rabbit, which breaks down as soon as he goes through the door. The man who tricked Bugs into coming then appears as a scientist (based on Peter Lorre). The scientist then sends Gossamer after Bugs for a meal. Gossamer chases Bugs all around the castle nearly succeeding in catching Bugs several times before finally giving in and collapsing. Bugs then escapes the castle only to be aroused by another mechanical rabbit.
