The Great Animal is a hybrid animal from the 1994 animated film, The Swan Princess. He is Sir Rothbart's animal form. He transforms into this form twice in the film; one in the beginning and at the climax. The Great Animal himself is a hybrid with the head of a wolf, the body of a bat, the talons of an eagle and the tail of a lizard. The Great Animal is voiced by Frank Welker.
Role in The Swan Princess[]
When Odette and William leave Uberta's kingdom, a dark enchanter who was banished from William's kingdom several years early, Sir Rothbart, appears and transforms himself into the Great Animal. He kidnaps Odette and assassinates William. The Great Animal does not appear again until near the end of the film when a furious Prince Derek confronts Rothbart, ordering Rothbart to revive Odette. To Prince Derek's surprise, Sir Rothbart transforms himself into the Great Animal. A battle ensues with Rothbart overpowering Derek and nearly killing him. Fortunately, Odette's animal friends return Derek's longbow to him, and Bromley, who has escaped from his early imprisonment in the dungeon, provides Derek with a single arrow. Derek catches and fires the arrow into Rothbart's heart, killing him for good.
